Instructors Cindi Glenn - Founder and Owner Cindi has been in the fitness industry for 30 years. She is a former tri-athlete and tennis player, and fitness has always been a major focus in her life. She has worked for IDEA, YMCA, Gold Gym International, Kaz Gym and she taught group fitness to Alabama Power employees and at various corporate locations. She also helped train the Auburn University Dive Team and coached youth baseball and soccer. Can't wait to work out with you!" ~ Cindi Glenn Donna Christian I’ve been a passionate dancer since the age of seven and left my Southern California home in ninth grade to study ballet at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. After graduation I enjoyed a rewarding career with the Alabama Ballet as a soloist and later as a principal ballerina. After hanging up my pointe shoes, I stayed fit with step aerobics and boot camp. Surgery on an arthritic big toe forced me to make some changes, and I discovered barre classes and yoga. I enjoy the physical benefits of both of these disciplines, but I’m particularly drawn to the interplay of breath, mind, and body found in yoga. To my students I describe yoga as meditation in motion with the added benefit of a challenging workout. Don’t be fooled – yoga is about so much more than stretching! I earned my 200 hour Yoga Alliance yoga teacher certification from Balance Health Studio in Seagrove Beach, Florida in 2013. I have taught yoga in Birmingham at Grand Jete Fitness Studio and the Yoga Circle. I am delighted to be teaching yoga at CORE and honored to join such a talented and passionate group of instructors. My goal is to teach a class that will challenge you physically, yet leave you feeling calm, and invigorated. Besides being a dancer, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business from UAB and worked as a CPA in the tax department of Arthur Andersen until I became a stay-at-home mother working for my two boys, Lucas (21) and Rex (18). I have been married to my best friend and the love of my life, Steve, for 31 years. I’m an animal lover and proud vegan who enjoys hanging out with my dogs, reading, and gardening – when not being thwarted by deer and drought. Greer Elkus My name is Greer Elkus. I’m originally from Memphis, TN, but I’ve been living in Birmingham for 13 years. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 1995 with a BS in Sports Fitness Management, & in 1999, I earned a BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Tennessee. I worked in out-patient orthopedic PT until 2002 when my husband, Mark, our 1-year old daughter & I moved to NY for his fellowship. We moved to Birmingham a year later & added 2 more daughters. I began teaching group fitness classes in 2009 at the JCC, & in 2012 I earned my Core Barre certification. I have been teaching Core Barre at the J for 4 years and Core Suspend there for 2 years. Sports & exercise have been part of my life since I was a little girl playing soccer, swimming & running track. As a fitness instructor, I love being able to affect change in the well-being of my class participants. Core Barre & Suspend, specifically, allow me to apply my knowledge as a physical therapist & my enthusiasm as an athlete to promote smart & effective exercises. Jane Farris Hey Core! My name is Jane Farris and I’m thrilled to be part of the team! I’m from Knoxville, TN and graduated from Auburn University in 2008. I’ve been going to cycle classes with my father since I was 12 years old. It’s always been a dream of mine to one day becomes an instructor; so for my 30th birthday, my father gave me the inspiration to finally take the instructor course, and I haven’t looked back since! I’m married to an over-the-top Bama fan and we have two wild and crazy boys, Luke (3 years old) and George (18 months). Prior to being a cycle instructor and full time mom, I worked as a Bank Regulator for The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for 7 years. In my free time, I enjoy playing golf, skiing in Big Sky, MT, running outside, and chasing the boys around. It’s an honor and privilege to be part of the Core Team and I look forward to kickin’ some booty on the bike! Harisha Patel I am an AFFA and Les Mills trained fitness instructor with a Masters Degree in Nursing. I have been in the fitness industry for the last 20 years. I have run several half marathons. I am an RN with lots of experience and I have a husband and two children. I love Birmingham and all it has to offer for families and healthy living. Kelly Pruitt Stephanie Robinett An active and healthy lifestyle started at a very early age for me and has continued to be a major focus in my life! I started taking ballet at 4 years old and continued an extensive study in dance for over 18 years. I had the privilege of being able to attend several professional companies around the country including The Joffrey in New York, Southern Ballet Theatre in Orlando, and the Atlanta Ballet. I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration but soon realized that I had chosen the wrong path. I decided to take a complete turn with my life started nursing school while living in Atlanta as a newlywed. After transferring back to Birmingham, I received a BSN in Nursing from UAB. I have always considered myself a "Cardio Junkie" and started attending indoor cycling classes in college. It was while I was living in Atlanta that I started formal Pilates training and fell in love with the concept and discipline. I'm Balanced Body (Pilates) and Real Ryder Certified and have been formally teaching for 3 years. I've loved learning and expanding my knowledge through my fellow instructors and mentors at CORE! When I'm not teaching at CORE you may find me training for long distance runs around Birmingham with my husband Adam. I'm also a mom of two children Lucy and Charlie and very active Spaniel named Annie. Mary Rountree Certified Spinning Instructor through Madd Dog Les Mills, RPM certified instructor Instructor at Gold’s gym (all locations) for 5 years Sub 4 hour marathon runner Completed New Orleans ½ Ironman in 2009 Numerous age group awards for half marathons, 10ks, 5ks, and triathlons Mother of two children and two dogs Elementary Teacher-3rd grade (Vestavia West) Degrees from Auburn University, UAB, and Samford Presently pursuing a PhD in Early Childhood Ed at UAB Fitness Fanatic Yoga 1 and 2 Certified Traci Smith Traci is a physical therapist for the Baptist Health System and has been teaching group fitness for over two decades. As a physical therapist she specializes in outpatient orthopaedics and employs manual techniques as well as functional dry needling in the treatment of her patients. She holds certifications/licenses in Zumba, ZumbaAtomic, BodyPump, BodyFlow, BodyCombat, CX WORX, Madd Dog Athletics Spinning, and New Forest T’ai Chi. She is an E-RYT 200 through Yoga Alliance and is currently working towards completion of her RYT 500. She also works for YogaFit Worldwide Training Systems as a Master Trainer for YogaFit Teacher Training courses and uses yoga techniques in the therapy setting. In her spare time she dances and performs with Petite Jamilla and The Arabesque Dancers belly dance troupe and Moe O Hakina Hema Polynesian/Tahitian dance troupe. Chantelle B. Tuggle I started teaching group fitness in 2006 after “finding” Body Pump at a local gym. I grew up dancing in British Columbia, for 16 years, and that was my passion and my exercise most of my life. Taking classes that were choreographed stimulated my body and my brain again and got me interested in signing up for a couple of Les Mills instructor trainings within a couple of months of taking my first class, I was hooked. I have been lucky enough to teach a couple of different dance fitness formats over the years as well and love that I still get to dance every week. Core Barre and Core Suspend are my newest certifications and I absolutely love them! I have been teaching both for a few years, all thanks to Linay for bringing them to town. I love working with students in these classes more closely and watching them get stronger and progress every week. Outside of the gym I am a pharmacology researcher at UAB during the day, and go home to my beautiful wife Mallory and our new furbaby Lola every night.
